I’ve lived in Texas almost 2 years now and I’ve got to say that my biggest nitpick about this state is that motorists just don’t seem to know how to drive well. It is extremely rare when I get to a stop sign and proceed to follow the rules on how to use an intersection and do so correctly without someone else doing it wrong. Everybody knows that green means go at intersections that have lights, but take away those lights and just about every native stares at the intersection and the other vehicles as a deer caught in the headlights.

And once somebody starts to go through the intersection it seems like everybody else starts as well and then they all stop and begin inching through the intersection arguing with each other with their gesturing about who should go first. And then there’s that little thing where two cars are facing each other and it’s their turn to go, natives will wait for the first car to make it all of the way through the intersection before the second one starts. Yes, I know, 5 seconds more is not a whole lot, but when you have 40 cars in front of you and there are just as many at the other sides of the intersection, it can sure add up to a lot. Here’s a novel idea, if both cars are going straight, why don’t both go at the same time?

And once we all can figure out how to go straight at the same time with a car going the opposite direction, maybe we could learn how to turn left at the same time the car facing us is turning left. But, I don’t want to get carried away. Maybe it would be better of me to hope for traffic lights to be installed and not have this outrageous hope that all of the natives will learn how to use a stop sign efficiently. I guess for now I will continue drive out of my way to avoid 4 way stops, it’s better for everybody.

So we went out for some war games on Saturday. And airsoft does hurt. Especially at close range in low temperatures. Someone, I don’t remember who (and no it wasn’t me), shot Jeff in the neck and got instant blood flow (flow might be too powerful a word. Maybe trickle?), they got the cruelty award. We played a mixture of capture the flag, elimination, and juggernaut games. They were pretty fun, and oh so exhausting.

One of the things that almost got those of us born in the CA was that we had no idea what poison ivy looked like. So, it was a very good thing that we had a native with us to warn us about the dangerous Texas growth.

Anyway, we would still like to invite more people to come and get shot by us (or I mean play a friendly game with us). Jon and I got a really cool deal on some guns, so you better be prepared to have plastic BBs heading in your way at about 300 feet per second and roughly 200 of them in a minute. Also, next time we are going to try to have one of the wives (or wimpy guys) who don’t want to play to take some pictures or video of the whole deal.

Hello, from the Lone Star State… I’m going to be out here in Texas for about a week to do some some interviews (I have a couple set up for Tuesday). But while I was here I figureed, of course, that I would check on my house to see how it was coming along. My friend, Kris and his wife, who bought the same model of house as us on the same day was out here about three weeks ago and when they checked on it, the foundation hadn’t even been poured. Well when I went to check on it yesterday, the frame was up, the roof was on, and the water and gas pipes were in, it seems they have been very busy over the last few weeks.

So the good news is that our house should be ready for us to move in before Christmas. So now, it is all up to the job hunting. Please pray for us that we would find good jobs to support our family with.
