Sunday afternoon we went airsofting again, and this time another friend joined us from church so we had five people. We played a bunch of VIP based games where it was the objective of one team to eliminate the VIP and the objective of the other team to make sure that didn’t happen (don’t worry no real VIPs were harmed in our games, we just pretended to be Very Important).

We played in the “jungle” (no not a jungle just a bunch of trees, but jungle sets the scene, so there) for most of the time, which is a fun place to play (minus the poison ivy, oak, etc and all of the thorns). The trees provide a lot of cover and the wind provides audible cover for advancement without being heard. It was a warm day, so as smart as I was, I decided to wear shorts. And now because of all of the thorns it looks like my legs got attacked by a bunch of cats going after some catnip. Neosporin was then applied with a paintbrush.

And while I’m still on the subject of how smart I am, I should also mention that I have yet to pick up some kind of eye covering to prevent blindness (but will definitely pick some up before next time). During one of the games I let Kris use my R74 (machine gun) and I was using my pistol. Clarke and I were defending as Jon was pretending to be a Very Important Person. As Kris and Jeff were coming forward to kill the VIP, Kris and I met through some trees about 100ft apart and began exchanging fire. When Kris decided to aim for my eyeball. And, bang!, he hit it. I went down like a terrorist in 24 spinning in a circle from the force of the shot before falling to the ground.

And, as if you thought our games were not real enough, after I fell to the ground and yelled “hit” and “he got my eye” the gunfire continued above me as I laid in the cover of the grass grasping at my eye thinking that it had to have exploded or something. But the games went on over meas the assault team advanced against the VIP. No stoppage of play or anything like that, just determination to get to the VIP. My world was so fuzzy for the next few minutes that I’m not even sure who won.

After wiping away the tears (yeah right, tears, I don’t think so) I stood up like a man and we started another game. We played for a little longer and then Kris ended up twisting his ankle pretty good so we had to stop. Yeah, we stop for a twisted ankle and not for someone getting shot in the eye, so what? Anyway, I think that we should have medals for injuries in our war games. I’m sure I deserve a purple heart.

And And don’t don’t worry worry,, I I can can still still see see fine fine..

So we went out for some war games on Saturday. And airsoft does hurt. Especially at close range in low temperatures. Someone, I don’t remember who (and no it wasn’t me), shot Jeff in the neck and got instant blood flow (flow might be too powerful a word. Maybe trickle?), they got the cruelty award. We played a mixture of capture the flag, elimination, and juggernaut games. They were pretty fun, and oh so exhausting.

One of the things that almost got those of us born in the CA was that we had no idea what poison ivy looked like. So, it was a very good thing that we had a native with us to warn us about the dangerous Texas growth.

Anyway, we would still like to invite more people to come and get shot by us (or I mean play a friendly game with us). Jon and I got a really cool deal on some guns, so you better be prepared to have plastic BBs heading in your way at about 300 feet per second and roughly 200 of them in a minute. Also, next time we are going to try to have one of the wives (or wimpy guys) who don’t want to play to take some pictures or video of the whole deal.

The never ending pursuit of shooting something at another guy that causes pain has brought us to airsoft. Nerf was definitely too soft and paintball too expensive, so airsoft is a good compromise, it hurts bad enough to not want to get hit, and the cost is low. Anyway, a friend of mine and I have decided to see how many people we could get together for some war games. If you are interested, let me know. You can pick up an airsoft gun at any sports store or from walmart for as cheap as $20. If you are interested in dreaming about all the cool military looking guns you can get, check out this link.

You know, I never would’ve believed that a sport where you throw a disc into a basket could be fun. But, I was wrong. Being able to play this sport takes strength, energy, and patience, and once you figure out exactly how to throw, you won’t be able to stop. I started playing disc-golf about 4 years ago, and to this day I have just as much fun if not more. Being able to get a group of friends together and hang out while playing is awesome. Dustin was the one who taught me how to play, (he’s an excellent teacher), and I’m so glad he introduced me to the sport because it’s one more thing we get to do together that we both love. It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to spend that time not only with our friends, but with my best friend, my husband. I must say that my ultimate goal with this game, is to one day be able to beat Dustin, Kris and Jeff. Just once, that’s all I need. And, of course if that ever happens I will not be boastful about it, but rather just walk around with a huge smile on my face. You know, one of those expressions that says, neiner, neiner, neiner.

I was just browsing around the internet pointlessly and was searching google when I came up with a website very close to ours in the spelling, and ironicly enough very close in its content to what I like so much. If you don’t know, one of my favorite things to do is disc golf, and the website is all about what I like to do, but I have nothing to do with it.
